چکیده

In the beginning of article we show some consequences of the regularity axiom. In the second part we introduce the successor of a set and the notions of transitivity and connectedness wrt membership relation. Then we define ordinal numbers as transitive and connected sets, and we prove some theorems of them and of their sets. Lastly we introduce the concept of a transfinite sequence and we show transfinite induction and schemes of defining by transfinite induction.

Ranking DMUs by ideal points in the presence of fuzzy and ordinal data

Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a very eective method to evaluate the relative eciency of decision-making units (DMUs). DEA models divided all DMUs in two categories: ecient and inecientDMUs, and don't able to discriminant between ecient DMUs. On the other hand, the observedvalues of the input and output data in real-life problems are sometimes imprecise or vague, suchas interval data, ordinal da...

Young Children's Understanding of the Successor Function

This study examined 4-year-old children’s understanding of the successor function, the concept that for every positive integer there is a unique next integer. Children were tested in the context of cardinal numbers and ordinal numbers. The results suggest that knowledge of the successor for cardinal numbers precedes that for ordinal numbers. In addition, for both cardinal and ordinal numbers, c...

Ordinality and the nature of symbolic numbers.

The view that representations of symbolic and nonsymbolic numbers are closely tied to one another is widespread. However, the link between symbolic and nonsymbolic numbers is almost always inferred from cardinal processing tasks. In the current work, we show that considering ordinality instead points to striking differences between symbolic and nonsymbolic numbers. Human behavioral and neural d...

Cardinal and Ordinal Numbers

This paper will present a brief set-theoretic construction of the natural numbers before discussing in detail the ordinal and cardinal numbers. It will then investigate the relationship between the two proper classes, in particular the similar difficulties in discussing the size of the classes. We will end with a short section on the cardinalities of well-known infinite sets with which the read...

Inner models and large cardinals

§0. The ordinal numbers were Georg Cantor’s deepest contribution to mathematics. After the natural numbers 0, 1, . . . , n, . . . comes the first infinite ordinal number ù, followed by ù + 1, ù + 2, . . . , ù + ù, . . . and so forth. ù is the first limit ordinal as it is neither 0 nor a successor ordinal. We follow the von Neumann convention, according to which each ordinal number α is identifi...

The mental representation of ordinal sequences is spatially organized: evidence from days of the week.

In the domain of numbers the existence of spatial components in the representation of numerical magnitude has been convincingly demonstrated by an association between number magnitude and response preference with faster left- than right-hand responses for small numbers and faster right- than left-hand responses for large numbers (Dehaene, S., Bossini, S., & Giraux, P. (1993) The mental represen...
